My Smart Home Recommended Devices
When you're talking to people about your smart home I think it's important to stand by the products you recommend and use. Being a smart home technology content creator I am fortunate enough to work with some of the biggest brands out there in this sector and get to try a number of different devices out in my smart home.
Some of these products are simply amazing and as you can expect, some of them can be, well disappointing to say the least. I've put together this page so that you can see the products I use and by this definition, recommend unless otherwise stated.
CONTROLLERS
There are many options available when setting up a smart home controller. As I use Home Assistant, I've chosen hardware that provides great processing power and expansion for future needs.
SPEAKERS
Although I try to automate as much as possible to not require the use of a smart speaker or physical buttons, I still use these in the house for some automations and announcements.
SENSORS
I use a range of sensors from different manufacturers and in general find them all to be pretty reliable. Most of my sensors are Zigbee based which is my primary network communication protocol.
ZIGBEE COORDINATORS
Picking the right Zigbee coordinator for use in Home Assistant can be a little tricky. I prefer to use Zigbee2MQTT as it seems to have better device support.
PLUGS & POWER STRIPS
The majority of the plugs I use are Zigbee based with power monitoring capabilities, though I do have a number of Matter and Wi-Fi controlled devices as well.
SECURITY
I've recently installed a smart lock on my house and it's been working flawlessly. It's a retrofit solution that's highly compatible with existing locks worldwide.
MISCELLANEOUS

HUBS
